Thousands of roaring Harley-Davidson motorcycles will soon roll into Hot Springs for the 15th Annual Arkansas State Harley-Davidson Owners Group Rally, which returns this year after a brief hiatus.
"When the rally has been in Hot Springs, people that have come from surrounding states and across the country have found that there is great hospitality in Hot Springs. The city really rolls out the red carpet to the Harley riders" said Brian Phelps, customer service manager for Jones Harley-Davidson.
The Arkansas State H.O.G. Rally got its start when a group of people approached the regional manager of H.O.G. and made a proposal to host a rally. The first was held in Hot Springs for 10 consecutive years, until 2006, when it was moved to Fort Smith. To determine where the rally will take place, each Harley-Davidson dealership in Arkansas and each H.O.G. Chapter casts a vote. After the votes are tallied, the area with the most votes hosts the rally. About 4,000 people are expected to attend this year, and as a result, area business owners will benefit.
The festivities will kick off today with an Early Pig Party at the Hot Springs Convention Center, followed by Rockin'Dopsie, Jr. and the Zydeco. Then the Twisters are in concert tonight, with Eddie Money performing Friday night, and Peter Frampton on Saturday night.
The Parade of Harleys will take place on Friday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. The bike show will be held from 10am to 2pm Saturday at the Convention Center and is open to the public. All other events are for H.O.G. members only. Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, there will be guided tours and games.
